Learning to ride

Like I said, our next adventure was on 2 wheels and what an adventure it was. After that stupid go cart scarred the buttons off dads shirt he decided to invest into something with out a motor...this is where the bicycles came into the scene... and since Sean had a bicycle... we were all set. We went all over the place with our bikes... but there was one small problem.... I didn't know how to ride it. I dunno... I tried to pedal it but I guess I didn't have any balance... so I pushed it. Yes that's right... I pushed it while all the other guys could ride. I could almost keep up to... If there was something to jump , then I pushed it over and made it jump- if there was a mud hole to go through, then I pushed it through the mud hole. After pushing that bike all over the yard day in and day out, I believe everyone was starting to feel like it was time I learn how to pedal that dang bicycle. Well Sean had this really small bike at the time and I thought it was the right size for me to get started on. Within the first try, I pedaled that bike like a pro.... After a few more laps of riding -I was eager to get home to show mom and dad. It was almost like a fourth of July celebration for a little while. The time had arrived... I finally knew how to ride a bicycle. You know I have to say... It was much easier and way more fun to ride my bike than pushing it... hey... I was starting to get kind of tired of mud splashing on my legs when I pushed it through them mud holes. Since I knew how to ride, Sean and I started riding everywhere a bike could be rode.

It really depended on where we were at but behind his grandparents house back in the woods a little, was a trail we loved riding on. I even think it was Sean who came up with the name... we called it burn-out alley. This trail was graced with a steep hill and a root on the left side for us to hit so we could get some air and then the rest was down hill so we could go as fast as we could. We had the greatest times back their trying to jump that hill. That place was the crossroads to our little kingdom. We had a another cousin that lived little further in the woods that would sometimes join us but the majority of the time it was just Sean and myself. I remember there was also a huge boulder stuck in the ground we use to go to.... it was like an adventure to get their. We had to take a different trail with big rolling hills to get their but it was well worth the journey. It felt like nobody else on the face of the earth knew about it except us. We called it the big rock. You know, I guess that's why it felt like Sean was my brother instead of a cousin ... no matter what we done, we had the best times. For us, growing up in Lilesville was better than any other thing we could have ever imagined. We never sat around and wished for something else. We had everything a kid could possibly want. Now that I'm older, I look at the kids playing around the neighborhood and I start thinking, man you don't even know what fun is, such a shame you will never experience what I got to enjoy as a kid. I find myself zoned out a lot thinking.... how I wish times didn't have to change- and how I miss the fun times I had when I was growing up. From the time Sean and I were climbing the magnolia tree up to this day- I can honestly say we had some adventures that most people would say were crazy- but to us ...... it was life as a kid....don't get uncomfortable yet- there is still lots more to come. Keep on reading to see how it was when we got older....
